His first involvement with arts organisations was through membership of the of Artists Alliance predecessor, the NZSSPA and he was a foundation member of Visual Artists Against Nuclear Arms. He is chairman of Spark studio, the all inclusive creative space offering an innovative art programme for adults of all abilities.
At various times he has been secretary, treasurer and chairman of Artists Alliance. John is able to bring arts management skills and a long-term perspective on the wider arts environment. John is presently chair of the Artists Alliance board.
Matt has written for numerous art publications and prior to working at Auckland Council was Objectspace Programme Coordinator between 2007 and 2011, where he initiated and curated a wide range of exhibitions, including a series of contemporary design projects ('Redefining Agility: craft - science - sport', 'Quotidian: finding inspiration in everyday design', 'Why Milan?: New Zealand designers reflect').
He is passionate about professional practice for emerging artists and as well as being a current Artists Alliance mentor, served as curator of Objectspace's annual graduate showcase exhibition 'Best in Show' between 2008 and 2011.
Matt has been a member of the board for Artists Alliance since 2009.
Juliet has a diverse background, centred in the Creative Industries. She has been responsible for creating and implementing a vision for numerous projects and initiatives. Her professional career began in theatre as a director and performer, before embracing television as a presenter, director and documentary filmmaker. Alongside her directing projects Juliet is a specialist business consultant coaching senior executives in presentation and pitching skills. In 2004 she completed a Visual Arts degree at Auckland University of Technology. Juliet is currently Project Director for headland Sculpture on the Gulf 2011 and has been a member of the board for Artist Alliance since 2009.
Naomi McCleary
Naomi is currently free lancing as an arts consultant after 17 years as the Arts Advisor and Manager for Waitakere City. During that time she developed a wide portfolio of arts activity for the city ranging across community arts, arts events, such as Trash to Fashion and the Going West Books and Writers Festival, and an arts/design practice for integrating art into public infrastructure. In a previous life she was a print-maker and may emerge as one again. She had a role in the development of the Lopdell House Gallery in the 1980s and is currently founder and chair of the McCahon House Trust and is a trustee of the Waitakere Arts and Cultural Development Trust which governs the Corban Estate Arts Centre.Justin Jade Morgan lives and works out of Wellington, New Zealand. He holds a Post Graduate Diploma of Art and Design from Auckland University of Technology and has a Bachelor of Visual Arts from the Western Institute of Technology, New Plymouth.
Justin Jade Morgan
Justin has been exhibiting his work for the last eleven years in New Zealand and a broad and has been creatively involved in community art projects throughout New Zealand over the past eight years including the directorship/ management and formation of JJMorgan and Co. Wellington (late 2009-) and JustArt (2002-early 08) together both of these initiatives have already hosted/curated, supported and sponsored well over 100 emerging and established artists and been linked to numerous organisations throughout New Zealand. He is a team member of the International new media Solar Circuit Aotearoa New Zealand (symposium / residency), and was a board member for the North Taranaki Community Arts Council in 2005/06.
Justin's personal art experience has also seen him hold residencies with Woodleigh Primary School, the Western Institute of Technology in New Plymouth and lopdell House gallery. In 2008 Justin was selected to be the first New Zealand artist to exhibit and present a floor talk at the 3rd ‘Archipelag' International Contemporary Arts Festival between Nova Gorica (Slovenia) and Gorizi (Italy). In 2009 he was selected to take part in the 2010 A.I.R Vallauris residency in the South of France and this year he was selected to take part in the SCANZ 2011: Eco sapiens residency.
Justin has also spent time working for arts organisations such as the Govett Brewster Art Gallery and offered his time to initiatives/organisations such as Artist Alliance, Real Tart, the Western Institute of Technology, the Hutt Valley Arts Community and the Clifton's emerging art awards. He has worked as a senior extramural art tutor at the Learning Connexion in Lower Hutt, Wellington and is now employed as the Director of The New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts.
