ARTSPACE 2010 Curatorial Internship Awarded

ARTSPACE is pleased to announce Roman Mitch as the recipient of our 2010 Curatorial Internship. Roman was awarded this coveted learning position out of an impressive range of talented applicants.

Roman Mitch comes to us with a solid academic and contemporary arts background. He has extensive experience in many facets of contemporary art, theory and exhibition production as a technician, artist and a curator. He is actively involved in the Auckland arts community and graduated with a Bachelor of Visual Arts from A.U.T in 2006.
Roman Mitch who starts his Internship this week says, "I feel privileged to be given this opportunity and I'm excited to be able to devote a year to working with artists on their projects. ARTSPACE is a great place for people to develop discussions around ideas, about art practice, the local art community, and also about broader cultural contexts."

The internship, established in 2004, offers budding curators a unique opportunity to learn in a mentored relationship with the Director at one of New Zealand's leading contemporary art galleries. The programme is a vital instrument in growing experience and professionalism of New Zealand's contemporary art practitioners.

"By giving young people the chance to add depth to their knowledge and skills we aim to give them a firm grounding so they are in a position to take on senior roles in New Zealand's visual arts within five years". Says ARTSPACE Director Emma Bugden

Previous interns are on their way to this goal through taking on curatorial positions at contemporary art spaces locally and internationally and working as writers, critics and on independent curatorial projects. The ARTSPACE Curatorial Intern Programme is made possible through the support of Creative New Zealand and private patronage.
